Jean Shibley, 90, passed away at the Linn Manor in Marion, IA, on Monday, April 22, 2019.
Jean Dorothy (Rendell) Shibley was born in St. Ustell, United Kingdom, on January 17, 1929, the daughter of Donald and Gertrude (Jarvis) Rendell, who preceded her in death. She married Harold Shibley in Winterhaven, CA, on May 17, 1958, and he preceded her in death on September 21, 2006. Jean and Harold spent the first several years of their married life traveling and living in various states because of Harold’s work with the United States army as a civilian employee. Harold took early retirement in 1970 and he and Jean moved to Unionville, MO. Jean was a homemaker during their early married life, but she later worked as an assistant teacher in the Putnam County R-1 elementary schools, working especially with reading programs.
Jean liked to knit and crochet, making several afghans for the Linus Project. She was very active in the United Methodist Women’s group at the Unionville United Methodist Church. Jean was also a member of the Order of Easter Star and was a Girl Scout leader. Jean had a friendly and pleasing personality. She had a quick wit and good sense of humor. Jean was honest in her relationships with people and very likable.
Jean is survived by a son, Gerry (Deborah) Shibley of Central City, IA; and three daughters, Laura Ingersoll of O’Fallon, MO; Cathy DeJulius of Raytown, MO; and Jill Collins of Bristol, England. She is also survived by grandchildren Ray Dorsey, Trent Ingersoll, and Kaitlyn Ingersoll, and four great grandchildren. A sister, Mary Munn of Bridgewater, England, survives as well.
In addition to her parents and husband, Jean was preceded in death by a grandson, Derek Dorsey, a son-in-law, Dale Dorsey, and a brother, Ian Rendell.
Funeral services for Jean Shibley will be at Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home in Unionville, MO, at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 27, 2019, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Martinstown Cemetery.
Memorials for Jean are suggested to the Martinstown Cemetery and may be entrusted with Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO 63565.
