Jerry Lee Reed "Squeak", a beloved figure in the Kirksville community, passed away on December 6, 2024, at the age of 72. Born on April 20, 1952, in Kirksville, Missouri, Jerry dedicated his life to serving his hometown, working tirelessly for the City of Kirksville until his retirement in 2007.
Jerry was known for his generous spirit and boundless kindness. He was a great man who would help anyone in need, and he never met a stranger. His warmth and openness left a lasting impact on those who crossed his path.
Family was paramount in Jerry’s life. He married the love of his life, Marilyn (Bass) Reed, on December 13, 1973, and together they raised a loving family. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn, and their cherished children: Terry (Chris) Reed of Kirksville and Anna (David) Schwaner of Mt. Vernon, IL. His legacy also lives on through his grandchildren: David Pruett, Rebecca Gower, Heather Pruett, Nathan Reed, Terry Reed Jr., Clifton Reed, Logan Schwaner, and Tyler (Christy) Reed, as well as his great-grandchildren, Blaze Reed, Bradon Reed, and Evelyn Reed.
Jerry is additionally survived by his siblings: Jim (Ginger) Reed, of Kirksville, Danny (Nancy) Reed of Kirksville, Harvery "Butch" Reed of Crow Point, IN, Donna (Lonnie) Magruder of Kirksville, and Sally Weekley also of Kirksville. He is also survived and loved by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and ClaraBell Reed, as well as his sisters Janet Weekley, Jessie McCoy, Sandy Lyons, Judy Ballinger, and his brother Ronnie Reed.
In his leisure time, Jerry enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and family, fishing, visiting Walmart, and working on various projects. He had a passion for travel that he embraced fully prior to his illness.
A memorial service will be held in his honor on December 14, 2024, at the First Church of God in Kirksville, MO, starting at 11:00 AM. The family invites all who knew and loved Jerry to join them in celebrating his life and legacy.
Jerry Lee Reed will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Playle-Rimer-Millard Family Funeral Chapels in the name of Marilyn Reed.
