Jerry Rowland, 82, of Queen City passed away Tuesday morning, January 24, 2023, in the Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.
The son of Orval and Golda (Veach) Rowland, he was born October 2, 1940, at the family home in Livonia, Missouri. He graduated from the Livonia High School with the class of 1959, and soon after moved to Moline, Illinois.
Jerry was united in marriage to Jill Schiller on January 19, 1963. To this marriage three children were born, Shane, Tracy, and Billy. In 1965 they moved from Moline, Illinois to Queen City, Missouri, where he owned and operated a gas station and restaurant along highway 63. He began his trucking career in 1968 as a self-employed over the road truck driver until his retirement in 2015. During this time, he also owned Rowland Auto Sales and Queen City Cafe.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Jill; his children, Shane Rowland and fiancé Debra Brantner of Queen City, Tracy (Sissy) Koger and husband Kelvin of Queen City, and Billy Rowland of St. Peters, MO; three step children, Kara Chrisman, Alisha Dobbs, and Scott Koger; grandchildren, Andrew Strunk, Landon Rowland, Erin and Brisco Schaefer, and Corbin Rowland; step great granddaughters, Ciara Chrisman and Kaydence and Madilyn Dodds; great grandsons, Ryley Strunk, and Jaxon Strunk; one brother, Loren (Bill) Rowland and a sister, Loretta Cherry both of Queen City, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lowell, Jack, and Don Rowland, and sisters, LaVee Mathes, Melba Rowland, and Janetta Smith, and a great grandson, Jack Rowland.
Jerry was a 50 year member of the Queen City Masonic Lodge #380 where he was the Worshipful Master. He was also a member of the El Kadir Shrine Club of Kirksville, Moila Shrine Temple, York Rite, Scottish Rite, and the Kirksville Moose Lodge. Jerry was also a member of Grandma Lodge of Grafton, Illinois and was president of the Rose Cemetery.
He enjoyed getting together with family and friends, mowing yards, and shoveling snow. He really enjoyed people and was always glad to help others.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday morning (January 28, 2023) in the Dooley Funeral Home with Pastor Sonny Smyser officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Andrew Strunk, Landon Rowland, Dale Cowan, Corbin Rowland, Audrey Drummond, and Johnny Veach.
Visitation will be after 2:00 p.m. Friday (January 27, 2023) with family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Dooley Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the Schuyler County Cancer Relief Fund.
