Jessie I. Werhan

October 10, 1927 — September 23, 2018

Jessie I. Werhan went to be with the Lord on Sunday morning after breakfast on September 23, 2018.

She was born to Thomas and Emma Jane Billington, one of ten children, on October 10, 1927 in Greencastle, Missouri. On February 4, 1966, in Waterloo, Iowa she married Charles "Chuck" Werhan.

She is survived by three children: Sandy Fookes and husband Jim from Elkhart, Indiana, Linda Jones from Gurnee, Illinois, and Bryce Werhan and wife Amanda of Republic, Missouri;  three grandsons: Tim Fookes from Marne, Michigan, Andy Fookes and wife Stacy from Knoxville, Tennessee and Corey and wife Meagan Fookes of Lennox, IL; one granddaughter, Jess Werhan from Republic, Missouri; seven great-grandchildren:  Jack, Tess, Malena, Henry, Will, Ethan and Liam; and one sister, Betty Pickens of Kirksville, Missouri.

Mom was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. For most of her life she was a homemaker. She loved that role and did it well!  She always looked forward to when her family would come home during the summer or at the holiday season.  Did we ever enjoy the good cooked meals that we experienced from Jessie's kitchen. From her homemade chicken noodles to her homemade pies, we enjoyed the food and the time together.  Mom enjoyed living in the country at the "ranch."

Mom was a devoted follower of Jesus.  She loved the Lord and looked forward to being reunited with her loved ones in heaven.  In recent years mom enjoyed attending the Sunday school class at Hazel Creek Church. Some of the residents at the nursing care facility told us they could hear Jessie praying as she would start each day with prayer and Bible reading.  We will greatly miss you MOM, but we know you are in the presence of Jesus.

Visitation with the family will be from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday (September 29, 2018) at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Green Castle Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to Hazel Creek Freewill Baptist Church.
