Jim Leroy Seidel

January 27, 1942 — August 25, 2017

James (Jim) Leroy Seidel, 75 years old, formerly of Ravenna, Ohio, passed away August 25, 2017, at his home in Pollock, Missouri.  He was born January 27, 1942, to Robert and Irma Miller Seidel.  On November 11, 1962, he married Shirley Schoonover, who survives.

Also surviving are three children: Jim Seidel, Jr.,  (Misty) and Betsy Stottlemyre of Pollock and Chris Seidel (Debbi) of Ravenna, Ohio; a sister, Judy Ward of Austinberg, Ohio;  six grandchildren, Charlynn Seidel of Greenville, Pennsylvania; Mariah Corson (Eric) of Kinsman, Ohio; Kyle Seidel of Newton Falls, Ohio; and Adrianna, Alaina, and Amy Stottlemyre and Calli Seidel all of Pollock; one great grandchild; a niece, Erin Shreve (Frank) of Austinburg, Ohio; a nephew, Robbie Ward (Krystal Ricciardella) of Perrysburg, Ohio; and sister-in-law, Phyllis Blondefield of Pollock.

Jim attended Ravenna High School, graduating in 1960.  After graduation, he joined the Air Force and served for four years, primarily at Selfridge Air Force Base at Mount Clemens, Michigan.  Following military service, he and Shirley moved to Ravenna to join the family farm operation where they ran a Holstein dairy and apple orchard for over 40 years.  Upon returning to Ohio, Jim also worked for the Soil Conservation Service for a short time as a surveyor.  In 2007, he and Shirley moved to Pollock.

Jim was an unassuming person and always a good neighbor.  He loved his family and particularly loved family get-togethers and cookouts.  He was especially fond of homemade ice cream, and he only knew of two kinds of pie:  hot and cold.  Jim enjoyed camping and hiking and especially enjoyed taking jeep tours of the Arizona mountains and desert.  On the farm, Jim had a talent of inventing devices to make jobs easier and improvising when repairing equipment without the necessary parts.

Jim never complained about his illness and handled it with great dignity and courage.  As an adult, he accepted the Lord as his Savior, and when he could, he attended the Pollock Community Bible Church.

A visitation will be held Sunday, August 27, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Playle and Collins Funeral Home.  Graveside services will follow at the Holliday Cemetery south of Pollock.  Pallbearers:  Larry Guffey, Troy Mason, William Schoonover, Dave Prewitt, Doyle Stottlemyre, and Rick Stottlemyre.

Memorial contributions are suggested for the Holliday Cemetery and may be entrusted to Playle and Jones Funeral Home.
