John Mathews

John Mathews, 63 of Kirksville passed away Wednesday (August 2, 2017) at his home.

The son of James Nathan and Mary O. (Rosprim) Mathews, he was born May 20, 1954 in Palestine, Texas. On March 9, 1996 in Greensboro, North Carolina he was united in marriage to Linda Robinson.

John is survived by his wife, Linda; one son, John Michael Mathews Jr. and wife Jennifer of Whitehouse, TX; three daughters, Traci Clark and husband Jake of Blue Springs, MO, Kristi Brewer and husband Christopher of Sedalia, MO, and Nikki Shafer and husband Slade of Grain Valley, MO; three brothers, James Berry Mathews and wife Cathy of Houston, TX, Joseph Larkin Mathews and wife Dale of Houston, TX, and Stephen Patrick Mathews of Palestine, TX; one sister, Mary Lynn Garza of Sapulupa, OK; seven grandchildren; ten nieces and nephews and ten great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

John grew up in Palestine, Texas where he attended Catholic School and graduated from Palestine High School in 1972. He worked for 32 years for Universal Engineering out of Houston, TX where he traveled all over the country for his job. He then went to work for Westwood where he worked for 6 years.

John loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them, especially his grandchildren. He was a hard worker and was always willing to help anyone. He had an infectious smile and was liked by everyone. He enjoyed puzzles, sudoku, movies and MMA, and was an avid lotto player.

Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday (August 5, 2017) with a memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home.
