John Raymond Griswold, 82, of Unionville, Missouri, passed away peacefully in his home on August 10, 2019.
John Griswold was born on December 21, 1936 in Creston, Iowa, to Carl and Ruth (Noble) Griswold. John graduated from Creston High School. He married Anna Marie Wilson on December 28, 1974. He proudly served his country in the Navy as an Air Traffic Controller and was a member of the American Legion and the Broadlawn Baptist Church. He was a talented woodworking craftsman—many family members were blessed with his custom-made items that now serve as cherished memories. John was also gifted with the guitar and organ and enjoyed classic country and gospel music. For years, he ran the sound and light for the Lake Rathbun Country Music Theater.
John is survived by his five children: Linda Unglesbee and husband, Dale of Overland Park, Kansas; Brenda Jacobs and husband, Brian of Unionville, Missouri; Julie McKay of Seymour, Iowa; Raymond Griswold; and John Matthews and wife, Sandra of Smithville, Missouri. His surviving grandchildren include Amanda Cullin, Bryan Nigh, Brian Jacobs II, Jesica Jacobs, Jaxon Jacobs, Jodi DeVore, and Cole Matthews. He is also survived by nine great-grandchildren. His surviving siblings include Marjorie Erickson, Charlotte Werth and spouse, Knott, and sister-in-law Betty Griswold.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by two brothers, Marvin Griswold and Dale Griswold; a sister Donna Griswold; step grandson Joshua McKay; and step sister Karen Donner.
A memorial service for John Griswold will be at the Broadlawn Baptist Church in Unionville at 11:00 on Saturday, August 31, 2019. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be at the Unionville Cemetery.
