Joyce Dague, 85, of Unionville, Missouri, passed away at the Schuyler County Nursing Home in Queen City, Missouri, on Monday, August 30, 2021. She had been a recent resident of the Home.
Joyce Mae (Hilsinger) Dague was born in Clinton, Iowa, on February 8, 1936, the daughter of Orvile William and Tena (Teglar) Hilsinger, who preceded her in death. She was raised in Clinton and married Glenn Dague in Camanche, Iowa, on December 29, 1952. He preceded her in death on October 24, 2017.
Joyce and Glenn began married life in Lincoln, Nebraska, where Glenn served with the United States Marine Corps. They returned to Clinton after his discharge, and also lived in Jackson County, Iowa, before moving to St. Helens, Oregon, and then to Columbia City, Oregon, where they lived from 1973 to 2002. They moved to Unionville, Missouri, upon Glenn’s retirement in 2002 to be closer to family. Joyce was a homemaker who enjoyed playing bingo, card and board games, and doing jigsaw puzzles. They belonged to a camping club while in Oregon and enjoyed traveling with their camper. Joyce and Glenn were also active in the Moose and Elk clubs in Columbia City. She liked to raise flowers at her home in Unionville and always fed the birds around lunchtime so she would watch them and have mealtime companions while she ate at her dining room table. This was especially meaningful to her after Glenn passed. Joyce had a warm personality and good sense of humor.
Joyce is survived by her daughter, Susan (Clayton) Shady of Unionville, and five grandchildren: William Shady, Melissa Remme, Jonathan (Jessica) Bartalotti, David Shady, and Robert Shady. Fifteen great grandchildren also survive as well as a brother, Joseph Hilsinger of Portland, Oregon, and a sister-in-law, Emma Jean Hilsinger of California.
Joyce was preceded in death by four sisters, four brothers, and a great granddaughter.
