Keith Houser, 84, of Unionville, Missouri, passed away of natural causes at his home on Monday, November 24, 2020. He had been suffering with Alzheimer’s for several years.
Keith Givle Houser was born in Centerville, Iowa, on July 11, 1936, the son of Alfred and Nellie (Dole) Houser. He was reared in Iowa and attended high school in Moulton. Keith married Ethel Black and they later divorced. Four children were born to this union. Keith later married Shirley Gurth in Phoenix, Arizona, on January 3, 1970, and she survives at home.
Keith worked for Arnold Motors in Marshalltown, Iowa, in addition to having his own machine shop where he rebuilt motors. He later moved to Arizona and worked for Airresearch building engines for aircraft. That company eventually merged into Honeywell. Keith retired from there in 1992 and moved back to Moulton where he bought his father’s farm and began raising cattle and crops. He and Shirley sold the farm in 2017 and moved to Lake Thunderhead in Unionville.
Keith enjoyed archery and fishing, especially for crappie and bass. He like to play the guitar and was very active in church, first at Centerville Nazarene, and then at Mt. Ararat Baptist Church. He joined Broadlawn Baptist Church when they moved to Unionville. Keith was generous and easygoing. He was a good neighbor who was always helpful, and he was a hard worker.
Others who survive Keith are three children, Danny (Peggy) Houser of Fayetteville, Tennessee, Kathy (Mike) Rizzo, of Mesa, Arizona, and Rosslen Houser of Marion, Iowa. He is also survived by five grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. His surviving sisters are Sue Schwilling of Strong City, Kansas, and Lorrain Binkley of Moravia, Iowa. Keith is also survived by a stepbrother, Mark Houser of Indianola, Iowa, and two stepsisters, Terri (Joe) Laughlin of Macon, Missouri, and Jan (Mike) McMillen of Kentucky.
Keith's parents preceded him in death as well as a son, Danny, in infancy, a daughter, Karen Houser, and a grandson, Nick Houser. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Bob and Ben Houser.
Keith’s body will be cremated, and no services will be held at this time.
Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Northeast Missouri, and may be entrusted with Playle & Collins Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27 th , Unionville, Missouri, 63565.
