Dr. Kenneth M. McGuire, 94 of Kirksville passed away Saturday, January 1, 2022 at Kirksville Manor Care.
The son of Ernest M. and Nellie Ruth (Martin) McGuire, he was born April 20, 1927 in Winnipeg, Missouri. On June 29, 1957 in DeSoto, Missouri he was united in marriage to Arlen R. Kisler.
Ken is survived by two daughters, Lori McGuire-Jones and husband Matt of Atlanta, MO and Kelly Stern of Kirksville; four grandchildren, Anthony Allen, Dakota Flowers, Shawn Stinson and Casey Allen; eight great grandchildren; one sister, Gladys McGuire of Gladstone, MO and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife on August 26, 2018 and two brothers, Kermit McGuire and L. Keith McGuire.
Ken grew up around Lebanon, Missouri where he graduated high school. He served in the United States Navy during World Wat II until he was honorable discharge in August of 1946. He graduated with his B.S. from Southwest Missouri State University and his Masters and Doctorate degrees from University of Missouri. He taught Speech Pathology and Audiology at Northeast Missouri State University (now Truman State University) until he retired in 1992. He had the honor of having the Dr. Kenneth McGuire Media Center named after him.
He was a member of the noon Lions Club and First United Methodist Church. He was involved with Habitat for Humanity. He enjoyed watching Cardinal and Royals baseball and Chief’s football.
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 10, 2022 from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. with a memorial service at 1:00 pm. at First United Methodist Church. Entombment will be in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, Missouri.
Memorials are suggested to the Adair County Humane society.
