Kenneth Brooks Miller, 93 of Kirksville passed away Tuesday (July 4, 2017) at Kirksville Manor Care Center.
The son of Sheldon and Fayetta Mae (Brooks) Miller, he was born January 30, 1924 in Knoxville, Iowa. On June 30, 1946 he was united in marriage to Fern Alberta Wynn and she preceded him in death on April 6, 1990. On December 29, 2001 in Kirksville he was united in marriage to Cleta Miller and she survives.
Kenneth is also survived by one sister, Norma Precht; five daughters, Janey Winkley and husband Mike, Wynn Bighorse, JoEllen Cable, Diane McGlaughlin, and MaryAnn Lewis and husband Brett; one son, Brooks Miller and wife Patty; 23 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren; and one step son, Ed Wright and wife Karen.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Fern; brothers, Merle Miller and Donald Miller; two daughters, Faye Hutchinson and Teresa Foreman; son-in-law, William Foreman; and s grandson, Kevin Bradley Hardman.
Kenneth was raised in Mexico, MO. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1943 to 1946 during WW II, flying B-17’s. He attended the University of Minnesota for two years until he was recalled back into the service during the Korean Conflict, flying B-26’s. After the service he entered the family owned business, Miller Ford in Kirksville, where he worked until the business sold in 1972. He then opened and operated Independent Auto Service until his retirement in 1988.
He loved his church and its congregation, while a member of First Baptist Church he served as a Deacon and taught Sunday school, participated with his wife Cleta in the Senior Songsters and assisted with maintaining the facilities. Until his death he was active with the Christian Community Food Bank. He was an avid flyer and enjoyed the Cardinals and Mizzou Tigers Football.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday (July 7, 2017) at the First Baptist Church with grandson, Pastor Robert Hutchinson officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery in Mexico, MO.
Pallbearers will be Grandsons. Honorary Bearers will be Deacons of First Baptist Church.
Visitation with the family will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church. Arrangements under the directions of the
