Larry Ledford, 73 of Brashear, MO passed away Thursday, July 20, 2017 at University Hospital in Columbia, MO after suffering a heart attack.
The son of Harold and Margaret (Gerhold) Ledford, he was born August 31, 1943 in Gibbs, MO. On September 10, 1967 in Wichita, Kansas he was united in marriage to Connie Fries.
Larry is survived by his wife, Connie; two daughters, Tammy Rein and husband Rich of Alexandria, VA and Dana Thompson and husband Roger of Gibbs, MO; three granddaughters, Meredith Kesler and husband Cody of Kokomo, IN, Olivia Thompson of Kansas City, MO and Allison Thompson of Columbia, MO; two great grandsons, Riggins and Beckman Kesler; two cousins, Shirley Baker and husband Terry of Kirksville and Laverne Gerhold and wife Lela of Gibbs, MO; and his faithful companion, his chocolate lab, Sheba.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his step father, Charles Strickler.
Larry attended school in Brashear until moving to Wichita, Kansas where he graduated from East High in 1961. He attended KU where he had a full ride football scholarship. While playing football at KU he blocked for Gale Sayers. In 1964 he returned to Brashear and purchased the Brashear Oil Company with his step father; that he continued to run until the time of his death. He also farmed in the Brashear area buying his first farm in 1971. In 1999 Larry and Connie started spending their winters in Ft. Myers, Florida.
He was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church, where he served on the finance board and was an usher. He was an honest and hard working man who enjoyed fishing, yard sales, auctions, watching football and St. Louis Cardinal baseball and most of all spending time with his family. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather who was loved greatly by his family.
Funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday (July 24, 2017) at Faith Lutheran Church with Pastor David Lukefahr and Pastor Mark Appold officiating. Burial will be in Park View Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Roger Thompson, Cody Kesler, Larry Salter, Laverne Gerhold, David Stustman, and Jim Shonkwiler.
Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the
