Larry Lee Montgomery

February 9, 1942 — May 10, 2021

Larry Montgomery, 79, of Macon, Missouri, passed away at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, Missouri, on Monday, May 10, 2021.  He had been a patient there for about a week.

Larry Lee Montgomery was born in Kirksville, Missouri, on February 9, 1942, the son of Forrest and Beulah (Baldwin) Montgomery who preceded him in death.  He was raised in Unionville, Missouri, and graduated from Unionville High School in 1960.  Larry married Diana Collins in Unionville on August 26, 1962, and she survives at home. Larry joined his mother in the restaurant business in Kirksville soon after his marriage and together they operated the Ritz in downtown Kirksville until 1968.  Larry then worked ten years in manufacturing for Kewanee in Kirksville where they built ag equipment and he served as a foreman.  He and Diana moved to Florida in 1986 and Larry worked in construction for Lifestyle Homes.  He was a foreman for the company, working with contractors, homeowners, and local inspectors where his ability to keep a level head served him well.  He and Diana moved to Macon in 2001.  Larry enjoyed wood working and made crafts (which he sold at local craft shows), furniture, and ink pens.  He and Diana also liked to camp at Mark Twain and Thousand Hills lakes.  He enjoyed getting a cup of coffee and sitting on his deck to listen to the birds.  Larry was blessed with good neighbors, whom he enjoyed.  Even though health issues in later years were a challenge, Larry kept his good sense of humor and continued to work in his wood shop.

In addition to his wife, Larry is survived by his two children, Markeena (Rick) Farmer of Macon, Missouri, and Marty (Jennifer) Montgomery of Kirksville, Missouri. His two grandchildren are Lynsey Farmer and Aaron Montgomery.  Larry is survived by nieces are Larinda Thompson, Brinda Robb, Tamara Stervinou, and Terry Wells, and his nephew is Monty Loomis as well as great nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is also survived by extremely close friends Kelly and Debbie Finan and Jan and Gordan Ayer with whom he had an almost family relationship.

Others who preceded Larry in death were a brother, Loyd Montgomery, a sister, Loeta Kelley and in-laws Orris and Lena Mae Collins.
