Lavonne Filipek

LaVonne Filipek, 85, passed away Tuesday, July 11, 2017.

LaVonne was born in Doland, SD, on May 5, 1932, to Eugene & Eva (Herker) Lake. She grew up in Doland, SD and when married, she and John farmed around that area until moving to Rapid City, SD where she worked for Black Hills Packing Co. for many years.  She enjoyed visits from daughters and their families.  She was a big fan of Black Hills Speedway racing for many years until she was not able to go any longer, then watched NASCAR on TV with family.  She enjoyed going to the dog shows at the Civic Center meeting many dog show friends.

She spent the last few years living with daughters in Aurora, CO and Lucerne, MO, where she was living when she passed.

She is survived by her daughters; Arlene (Norman) Dannemiller of Lucerne, MO, and Peggy Shannon of Aurora, CO; grandsons Shane Shannon and Shawn Shannon; granddaughter Paula (Mike) Hoak; great grandchildren Joe Hoak, Caitlin Hoak & Nicholas Hoak.

She was preceded in death by husband John Filipek Jr., and her brother, Lester Lake.
She was a friend to many and will be missed very much.

Visitation was Friday, July 14, 2017 from 11-12 am at Kirk Funeral Home in Rapid City, SD. Service was Friday, July 14, 2017 at 12 pm at Kirk Funeral Home. Burial followed at Black Hills National Cemetery.
