Lillian Irene Gosser, 98 years, of Queen City, MO passed away on February 2, 2022 at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville.
The daughter of Dewey and Helen (Perry) Brumbaugh, she was born on November 20, 1923 in the Germania neighborhood, east of Queen City. On February 4, 1940 in Memphis, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Willis Clyde Goosey, and to this union one daughter was born. Willis passed away in 1975. On July 4, 1978, Irene married Bob Gosser of Lancaster, Missouri. Bob passed away April 18, 2019.
Irene is survived by a niece, Vickie Brumbaugh of Kirksville; great nephews, Travis Brumbaugh of Missouri, and Clinton and Romina Brumbaugh of Arizona; a nephew, Jackie Goosey of Memphis, Mo. and niece, Bonita Kish of Tennessee; a sister-in-law, Pauline Whitlow of Queen City, and brother-in-law, Bruce and Karen Gosser of Chesterfield, Mo.
Irene was preceded in death by her spouses; her daughter, Darlene Strickland; grandsons D.S. and David who died in a tragic fire in 1973; her father and mother; a brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Cleola Brumbaugh; a nephew, Rippey Brumbaugh, and other family members.
Irene grew up in the Germania neighborhood, attending the Klein rural school and the Downing High School. Following her marriage, she and Willis moved to various places in 12 states where he operated heavy machinery equipment for construction work. Irene worked at a variety of jobs during these moves, including picking cotton in Georgia. She worked for a lengthy period at Roselle’s Ice Cream Shop in Peoria, Illinois, where she fell on ice while on her way to work, which left her with a serious back and neck injury for the rest of her life. In 1961, they moved to a farm in the Germania neighborhood where they resided until 1966 when they moved into Queen City.
Irene was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Glenwood, Missouri. She had been a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was also a devout Christian, and her faith in her Lord carried her through many trials and tribulations. Irene read her Bible daily and was a wonderful friend and neighbor to all who knew her.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday February 5, 2022 at the Dooley Funeral Home with Pastor Robin McCullar officiating. Visitation will be from 1:30 – 2:00 p.m. before the service. Burial will be in the Queen City Cemetery.
