Loretta J. Rhoads, 90 of Kirksville passed away Monday, January 3, 2022 at the LaPlata Nursing Home.
The daughter of Carl and Ora (Elam) Cook, she was born April 5, 1931 in Ethel, Missouri. On May 12, 1955 in New Cambria, Missouri she was united in marriage to Joseph Rhoads.
Loretta is survived by a sister-in-law, Mary Moyer of Atlanta, MO; one uncle, Donald Elam of Mexico, MO; and four cousins, Lois Williams of Belton, MO, Robert Elam of Macon, MO, Marilyn Foster of Bevier, MO and Richard Elam of New Cambria, MO.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband on March 5, 2021.
Loretta grew up on the farm in Ethel, Missouri and graduated from the Ethel High School. She attended Northeast Missouri State Teachers College. She taught school in Callao, Missouri, worked for the Adair County Clerks office for twenty years and then at the Vo-Tech in Kirksville until she retired in 1997.
She and Joseph traveled to 48 states. She was a member of Church of Christ and several Bible groups. She loved to sew and make clothes, do crafts and her flowers.
Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 11, 2022 with funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home. Burial will be in Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, Missouri.
Memorials are suggested to the Truman State University Scholarship Fund.
