Eva Lucille Swisher, 89 of Kirksville passed away peacefully at her home, Monday, October 9, 2023 with loved ones by her side.
The daughter of Forrest and Edith (Schillie) Jones, she was born January 27, 1934 in rural Adair County, Missouri. On September 24, 1954 in Kirksville she was united in marriage to Donald Henry Swisher and he preceded her in death on December 23, 2016.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; one sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Jimmie Eitel; one brother, Charles Jones; two sisters-in-law, Onie Jones and Helen Jones; and one niece, Michelle (Jones) Carrier.
Lucille is survived by her children, David Swisher and wife Kim of Kirksville, Danny Swisher of Las Vegas, NV, Duane Swisher and wife Debbie of Galesburg, IL, and Donita Swisher of Greentop, MO; Grandchildren, Damon (Paula), Dayna (Rodney), Darin (Jourdan); Great-grandchildren, Case and Cole, Sydney (Karlie), Jack, Sam and Kayce, Abel and Tinlee; one brother, Donald (Rita Lou) Jones of Kirksville; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Lucille grew up on the family farm in southwest Adair County. She graduated from the Novinger High School in 1952. She worked for Dr. Norton and Dr. Stanley Bohon for 38 years, as a dental lab tech, making dentures. She then worked for Dr. Gordon and Dr. Riley until she retired. For over 20 years, Lucille and Donald enjoyed spending winters in south Texas.
She enjoyed tending to her garden, visiting with friends while exercising, following St. Louis Cardinals baseball, bowling, playing cards, shuffleboard and billiards, in which she was very competitive. She also loved making rhubarb desserts, family get togethers, and recently (on occasion) taking care of her two year old great-grandson, Kayce.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 12, 2023 with funeral service at 2:00 p.m. at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home. Burial will be in Park View Memorial Gardens.
