Madge Louise (Cook) Calhoun, 96, Kirksville, Mo formerly of Queen City passed away Thursday, July 6.
She was born September 28, 1920 in Enid, Oklahoma to Charles and Tisha (Morgan) Cook. Madge was raised and schooled in rural Taney County, Mo. Later the family moved to Schuyler County where they owned and operated the Tipton Corner gas station.
On September 8, 1942 Madge was united in marriage to Thomas Calhoun. They lived their lives in the Queen City area. Into this union three children were born who survive, Pat Houser and husband Denny of Cincinnati, Ia, Jackie Combs of Kirksville, and Tom Calhoun and wife Nancy of Columbia. Madge has eight grandchildren, five step grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Marie Manning and husband John of Rock Island, Il, and Ruth Satterfield of Reno, NV.
Preceding Madge in death are her husband, Thomas, her parents, one son-in-law Les Combs and one brother-in-law Bill Pottorff.
Madge was a member of the Queen City Baptist Church. She loved sewing, quilting, and embroidery work. She also loved watching her children and grandchildren participating in all their various sporting events. Tom and Madge were well known in the area for attending all sporting events.
Visitation will be at Dooley Funeral Home in Queen City on Sunday, July 9 at 12:00 with the funeral following at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Queen City Cemetery.
Pall bearers will be Rick Combs, Jeremy Mullenix, Kale Calhoun, Nathan Calhoun, Shane Combs and Shawn Combs, her Grandsons. Honorary pall bearers include Justin Mullenix, Zack Pipes, Nathan Pipes, and Tammy Cvikel.
In lieu of flowers donations are suggested to Twin Pines Residents Christmas Fund.
