Margaret Louise (Wellman) Western, age 99 of Kirksville passed away at Boone Hospital in Columbia on April 10, 2017 after a brief illness.
Margaret was born June 15, 1917 in Putnam County near Sidney, MO, to Clyde Homer and Mabel Edna (Cowan) Wellman, Margaret was the eldest of seven children.
On November 30, 1942 she married Boyd Albert Western who preceded her in death on July 3, 1994. While Boyd was deployed in the military during World War II, Margaret worked in a factory in Rockford, IL. Following the war, they moved to a farm in Schuyler County in the New Hope area south of Lancaster, moving in Kirksville in 1976. She was employed at Rider’s Drug Store for 21 years before retiring in 1985. She made many friends while there and had lots of fond memories, loving to reminisce about the lunch counter and the many customers as well as the employees she worked with.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Boyd; brothers, George, Fred, Bob and Wilbur Wellman and one great grandson, Jacob Blair.
Surviving are her daughter, Barbara Buckley and husband Terry of Columbia, MO; daughter, Nancy Calhoun and husband Tom of Columbia, MO and son, James Western and wife Donna of Kirksville as well as 8 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; one great great grandson; and two brothers, Harold and Jack Wellman.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday (April 14, 2017) at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Pastor Sonny Smyser officiating. Burial will be in the Greentop Cemetery.
Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Friday at the
