Marjorie McNeece, 89, of Unionville, MO, passed away at the Putnam County Care Center in Unionville on Thursday, October 18, 2018. She had been a resident there less than two weeks.
Marjorie Lavern Butler was born in Sidney, MO, on February 9, 1929, the daughter of Benjamin Blaine and Clara Mae (Frost) Butler, who preceded her in death. She attended country schools in Putnam County. Marjorie married Leon Montgomery on June 2, 1948, and two children were born to this union: Larry and Diana. Leon passed away on July 22, 1993. Marjorie and Leon were married 45 years and farmed most of their married life three miles east of Newtown, MO, where they raised their family. Marjorie was a hard working farmer’s wife who milked cows and raised a big garden, canning the produce of the harvest. They sold the farm in 1988 and moved to Unionville. Marjorie attended square dances in her younger years and helped with 4-H. She was a good neighbor who like to socialize and visit with folks, a trait she continued to practice throughout her life. She enjoyed attending music jams at Lemons and Pollock and liked to take meals at the PC Café and Resource Center where she made lots of friends. She also enjoyed riding the OATS bus. After the death of Leon, Marjorie had the misfortune to see three husbands precede her in death: She married Daymon Wood in 1994 and he passed away in 1999; she married Ed Smith and he passed away in 2001; she married Robert McNeece in 2001 and Robert passed away in 2008. Marjorie was able to maintain a positive outlook and a jolly personality in spite of these losses.
Marjorie is survived by her daughter, Diana (Larry) Smith, and son, Larry (Carolyn) Montgomery, all of Unionville, MO. Her grandchildren are Heather, Holly, Darin, Haley, Carol, and Samantha. She is also survived by 12 great grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews.
Other who preceded Marjorie in death include her brother, Carl Edward Butler, her sister, Maxine Hill and her husband Donald, and a nephew, Billy Hill.
