Marjory Jo (Mathews) Gregory passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2022, at her home with family by her side.

Jo, the daughter of Ralph Sherman and Margaret Nancy (Creek) Mathews, was born on December 20, 1934, in Putnam County Missouri.  Jo spent her childhood years residing with 9 brothers and sisters.  She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Freil Mathews, Mary Emma Thompson, Pauline Spence, Eda Mae Coleman, Harold Terry, Larry Mathews, and Lou Reed.  Surviving siblings are June Lord and Keith Mathews (Debbie).

Jo graduated from Unionville High School, Class of 1952, and soon moved to California for a short time before returning to Unionville for the remainder of her life.  She started her career with Production Credit on December 1, 1952, serving in numerous capacities such as Clerk, assistant bookkeeper, office secretary, treasurer, and loan officer.  On August 1, 1984, Jo became the first woman in Production Credit history to be honored and named as Assistant Vice President of the Unionville branch office.

In 1968, Jo married Paul Burns and was married until Paul’s death in 1979.  During her life with Paul, she spent many a day enjoying friends, playing cards and golf at the Unionville Country Club.  She spent many years serving on the Country Club Board and was active with the Women Golfers.  In 1981 she married Jerry Gregory and was married until Jerry’s death in 1985.

After retirement Jo spent countless hours tending to the needs of her Mother, and Paul’s Mother and Aunt.  Jo always had a special place in her heart for family, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.  She hosted many family gatherings in her home and always welcomed family with open arms. Jo, known affectionately, as Aunt Jo to many, was always supportive, understanding, and loving.  She will be missed by so many in her large extended family.

A private memorial graveside service was held for family only at the Unionville Cemetery, for which she was a long-time board member, on Wednesday, December 7, 2022.
