Mark Alan Lewis

July 26, 1959 — April 15, 2020

Mark Lewis, 60, of Unionville, Missouri, passed away at the Putnam County Care Center on Wednesday, April 15, 2020.  Mark had been a resident there for about three years.

Mark Alan Lewis was born in El Dorado, Kansas, on July 26, 1959, the son of Henry G. and Erma May (Ridge) Lewis, who preceded him in death.  Mark was reared in Kansas and graduated from high school in 1977. After graduating from high school Mark worked for Jayhawk Bowling and Trophy in Lawrence, Kansas, where he specialized in refinishing lanes.  He married Cheryl Ann Hampton in Council Grove, Kansas, on December 31, 1980 and they later divorced. Mark worked for 20 years as an aircraft supervisor with Beech Aircraft in Wichita, Kansas.  He left Beech to earn his Master Gardener degree from Kansas State University and then worked at nurseries in Wichita and El Dorado.  He moved to Unionville, Missouri, in 2016, to help care for his cousin, Adrian and Betty Lewis.

Mark liked to be around people and had a good sense of humor.  He was always pleasant to be with and kept a good attitude in spite of his failing health. Mark enjoyed his family, especially taking his nephews fishing for catfish.  He also loved to garden.  He attended Parkview Church of Christ in Unionville.

Mark is survived by his brother, Denny Lewis of Augustus, Kansas, and several nieces and nephews, of whom he was especially close to Tony and Mike Lewis.  Several cousins in the Unionville area also survive.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Greg Lewis of Flowermound, Texas.

Private graveside services (in keeping with the Governor’s guidelines for limited gatherings) will be held Saturday, April 18, 2020.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Northeast Missouri and may be entrusted with Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO  63565.
