Martena (Marty) Louise Yadon, 82 of Kirksville passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2024, at The Pines Post-Acute Rehab and Retirement Center.
The daughter of Harry and Frances (May) Miller, she was born April 27, 1942, south of Worthington, Missouri. She attended school in a small, one-room schoolhouse known as Independence and graduated from Livonia High School.
She was united in marriage to J Leroy Yadon on November 23, 1963 in Kirksville, MO. They had two children, one son and one daughter.
Marty worked several jobs throughout her lifetime, possibly her favorite being Laughlin Hospital where she made many lifelong friends. Others include serving food to children, cleaning houses and cooking and caring for the elderly. Her most formative job was growing up on a small farm with five brothers and one sister and working hard every day for their daily necessities.
Marty loved gardening. She had a large vegetable garden for many years, always sharing with others. Her flowers drew many onlookers, she was always willing to share seed or bulbs. She also liked to cook and feed people, no one ever left empty bellied at her house. She was known for making Christmas candy, especially divinity. It was an event every year were the family gathered at her mother's house to create this prized candy.
Marty is survived by her daughter, Tena Yadon of Kirksville and granddaughter Kelsey Yadon (Jay Yadon deceased) of Kirksville. She is also survived by two brothers, Charles (Sandra) Miller of Smithville, MO, and Marvin (Marilyn) Miller of Queen City and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Leroy; her son Jay; her sister Mary Ellen Followwill and three brothers, Dean Miller, Donnie Miller, and Dale Miller.
A Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 13, 2024, at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home. A Graveside service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Maple Hills Cemetery in Kirksville, Missouri.
Pallbearers will be Ron Followwill, Steve Followwill, Mark Followwill, Aaron Followwill, and Josh Locust. Memorial contributions may be made to Hope's Kitchen or the Adair County Humane Society.
