Mary Hubrich

December 2, 1925 — January 16, 2018

Mary Louise Hubrich

Our loving mother has passed. She will be dearly missed and never forgotten. Mary Louise Hubrich died at the Schuyler County Nursing Home on January 16, 2018.

Mary was born the daughter of Charles and Opal Kitterman in Waterloo, IA, on December 2, 1924. She grew up in both the Waterloo, IA and Queen City, MO areas. She married Reginald Tomkins, of Waterloo, IA on April 4,1946 and they were blessed with 6 children.
In 1966 Mom moved to the Queen City area after losing her husband, Reginald Tomkins. She worked for her Father, Charles Kitterman, at Kitterman's Kitchen. There she met and married Kenneth Hubrich on February 26, 1966. Later she worked at Hollister’s in Kirksville from which she retired.

Mom was a very hard-working woman and a fantastic cook. She truly enjoyed feeding her family and the friends we brought home. If she wasn't in the kitchen she was behind the ironing board or cleaning.

I remember her saying once that although she had been through some very tough times she had always promised herself that her kids would always be clean and never go hungry. "Mom...mission accomplished!" "You did what you promised, and so very much more!" Often, we would see Mom come home from work, do laundry, fix our supper and then iron before going to bed.

Mary Hubrich was preceded in death by her parents and stepmother, two husbands, Reginald Tomkins and Kenneth Hubrich, oldest daughter, Peggy Szakacs, Cedar Rapids, IA, two daughters-in-law, Carol Tomkins of Parkersburg, IA and Beth Tomkins of LaCombe, LA. She also had a sister die in infancy.

She is survived by three sons and two daughters, Rex Tomkins, Parkersburg, IA, Tom Tomkins, LaCombe, LA, Mary Kay McClellan, (James McClellan) Queen City, MO, Michael Tomkins, Sturgeon, MO, and Laura Anderson, (David Anderson) Greentop, MO, 15 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren.
"Thanks, Mom, for all your sacrifices, all the words of encouragement, all your love and every memory you gave us and those around you!"

Memorial Services will be held at a later date, yet to be determined. Arrangements under the direction of Dooley Funeral Home, Queen City, MO 63561
