Mary Wessel, 88, of Unionville, Missouri, passed away at the Putnam County Care Center in Unionville on Saturday, November 12, 2022. She had lived at the Care Center for about four years.
Mary Ruth (Johnson) Wessel was born in Seymour, Missouri, on November 21, 1933, the daughter of George and Magdalena Dora (Swiger). She married Robert A. Wessel on November 21, 1951, and she and Robert lived most of their married life in Putnam County where Mary was a homemaker and farmer’s wife. She liked driving the tractor, riding with Robert on the four-wheeler, and helping on the farm. She always raised a big garden and canned the produce. Mary liked country music, doing crossword puzzles, and watching soap operas, especially “All My Children.” She and Robert enjoyed going to Branson and riding their four-wheeler there. Mary was a quiet person with a sweet spirit. Her faith was important to her and she was a member of Hartford Baptist Church.
Mary is survived by three sons, Richard Wessel and Jerry Wessel, both of Unionville, and Tim (Cathy) Wessel of Centerville, Iowa. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Jessica Wessel and Matthew Wessel, and two great-grandchildren, Ava Rouse and Lily Wessel, as well as a sister, Dorothy Faye Linhart of Springfield, Missouri.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert, who passed away September 29, 1992; a daughter, Cathy Fowler; a stillborn son, Terry Wessel; five brothers, Charles, Marvin, Earl, James, and Robert Johnson; and a sister, Lois Cook.
Funeral services for Mary will be at Hartford Baptist Church at 11:00 am on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Shipley Cemetery north of Hartford.
