Masu Eggelston

January 13, 1929 — September 27, 2018

Masu (Yamada) Eggelston, 89 of Brashear passed away Thursday (September 27, 2018) at the LaPlata Nursing Home.

The daughter of Nabushiga and Aki Yamada, she was born January 13, 1929 in Tokyo, Japan. Masu grew up in Japan and had seven siblings, Shotaro Yamada, Toshi Watanabe, Yoshio Yamada, Yoneo Yamada, Sono Kikuchi, Seki Yamada and Asa Nohara. On August 13, 1951 in Tokyo, Japan she married Donald W. Eggelston. They left Japan on December 11, 1951 by boat and arrived in San Francisco, California on January 8, 1952. The Army took Masu and family from California to Texas and then to Kirksville, while Donald finished his 20 years in the Army. Masu worked at the Air Force Base in Subblet, MO until going to work at Laughlin Hospital and then KOH as a cook until retiring after 25 years.

Masu was known for her baking and sending care packages to the soldiers. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be missed by all.

Masu is survived by her children, Ronald Eggelston and wife Carrie of Alaska, Carol Burnside of Ottumwa, IA and Linda Griffin of Kirksville; five grandchildren, Daniell Eggelston Owens and husband Slade of Alaska, Steven Eggelston of Alaska, Rachel and Jennifer Burnside of Iowa and Dylan Slaughter of LaPlata, MO; one great granddaughter, Sydney Owens of Alaska.

Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Sunday (September 30, 2018) at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Park View Memorial Gardens.

Memorials are suggested to the Brashear High School Band.
