Nancy “Grandma” Wright, 73 of Macon, Missouri passed away Thursday, September 29, 2022 at University Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.
The daughter of Ellis Rural and Virginia Lucille (Kellison) Collop, she was born December 5, 1948 in Fort Madison, Iowa. On August 25, 1968 in Kirksville, Missouri she was united in marriage to James Loren Wright and he preceded her in death on January 8, 2021.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Frank Collop.
Nancy is survived by two sons, Dan Wright of Atlanta, MO and John Wright of Bucklin, MO; one grandson, James River Wright; four brothers, Mike (Cathy) Collop of Kirksville, Fred (Sandy) Collop of Kirksville, John (Cindy) Collop of Columbia, MO and Chris Collop and special friend Kelley McNamar of Brashear, MO; one sister-in-law, Vicky Collop of Brashear, MO; several nieces and nephews and tons of cousins.
Nancy grew up in Brashear, attended Hazel Green School, Kirksville Junior High and Kirksville High School, graduating in 1966. She graduated from Northeast Missouri State Teachers College with a Bachelor’s degree in Home Economics in 1970. She began her teaching career in 1971 in Humphreys, Missouri as a kindergarten teacher. She moved to Kirksville in 1974 and taught kindergarten at Novinger until moving to Macon, Missouri in 1983. She taught kindergarten in Macon from 1983 until she retired in 2009. After retirement she stayed active substitute teaching and helping with the after-school program.
She was a member of the Athenna Club in Macon and Retired Teacher’s Association. She volunteered at the Better Living Center in Macon. She loved walking and was known around Macon as the walking teacher. She enjoyed local sports, especially one’s involving her family and family gatherings.
Visitation with be from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. Monday, October 3, 2022 with funeral service at 4:00 p.m. at East Center Church east of Kirksville. Burial will be in East Center Cemetery.
Memorials in memory of Nancy are suggested to the East Center Cemetery.
