Opal E. Moore, 92 of Kirksville passed away Thursday, March 17, 2022 at her home.
The daughter of Holton “Hap” Sylvester and Cordelia (Houston) Jungers, she was born August 23, 1929 in Birmingham, Alabama. On July 29, 1948 in Blytheville, Arkansas she was united in marriage to Duke Lester Moore.
Opal is survived by her two daughters, Paula Moore of Kirksville and Nancy Moore and husband Michael O’Dell of St. Louis, MO; one brother, Lowell Sylvester and wife Melanee of Cambria, CA and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Duke and one brother, William B. “Bud” Sylvester.
Opal grew up in Southern Missouri, Blytheville, Arkansas and Tennessee. After her marriage to Duke, they lived in Peoria, Illinois until Duke entered the military and they moved to Fairbanks, Alaska for two years. They returned to Peoria where Opal worked in advertising for major department stores. In 1963 Duke and Opal purchased a farm in Green Castle, Missouri where she was a farm wife and started painting. She did free lance art work and sold her paintings at craft shows. She was proud that her art work went all over the world. In 1991 Opal and Duke retired and moved to Kirksville. Opal was an avid reader; enjoyed painting, cooking and baking. She loved her girls and her home.
A visitation with the family will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, March 21 st , 2022 at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home. Entombment will be in Park View Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor’s choice.
