Oscar Guy Shaffer

May 19, 1955 — February 15, 2023

Oscar Guy Shaffer Jr., 68 of Brookfield, MO, formerly of Elmer, MO, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 15 th , 2023 at Pershing Memorial Hospital in Brookfield, MO.

The son of Oscar and Cleo Shaffer, Oscar was born in Elmer, MO on May 19 th , 1955. He attended Atlanta C3 until he graduated in May of 1974. After high school, Oscar got a job at Truman State University in Kirksville, MO at the Ryle Hall cafeteria. He had started out as a dishwasher and then advanced his education by receiving a culinary arts degree so he could become a chef. Oscar had met his lifelong best friend and future wife, Jean while being employed at Truman State. They married in December of 1980 in Quincy, IL.

Oscar enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time with his family and watching western movies and tv shows. Oscar leaves behind his two sisters, Susan J. Calef of La Plata, MO and Sally Collis of Kennett, MO; two brothers, Wayne Wilken (Pat) of Lebanon, MO and Jim Wilken of Stover, MO; four nieces, Samantha Calef (Steven Owasis) of La Plata, MO, Georgia Skaggs of Kennett, MO, Cindy Wilken of Kansas and Denna Mingucci of Kansas; three nephews, Daniel Enlow (Heather) of Springfield, MO, Austin Shaffer of Springfield, MO and Jr Calef (Jennifer) of Quincy, IL; several great nieces and nephews, Anna Calef, Steven Calef (Shady), Felicia Calef (Chase Harrington), Samantha Skaggs, Joshua Skaggs, Ashley Williams, Austin Williams, Aleena Shaffer, Kelsea Shaffer and Hunter Enlow; many great-great nieces and nephews, Daemon, Topher, Adelyn, Leighton, Tristen, Athena, Ivy, Emberlyn, Keneley, Hunter, Alaina, Beau and many more.

He was proceeded in death by, his wife Beverly Jean Shaffer; three brothers, Kenny L. Shaffer, Wade Wilken and John H. Wilken; and his parents Oscar G. and Cleo G. Shaffer.

He will be missed dearly by his family and friends and thosw who cared for him at the Life Care Center of Brookfield. Donations can be made to Susan Calef and be mailed to Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Kirksville, MO.
