Owen Patrick Rafferty, 74 of Kirksville passed away Monday, April 19 th , 2021 at University Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.
The son of Owen Patrick Rafferty of Belfast, Ireland and Bertine M Ruble of Indianola, Iowa was born on June 17, 1946 in New York City. He was named after his Father and Grandfather. He spent most of his childhood in Wichita, Kansas and then High School in Indianola, Iowa. The family moved to Indianola after the death of his Father in 1961. Our Mom, Bertine (Ruble) wanted to be closer to her family-Victor Ruble and Dora and Guy Ruble and Anna Marie.
Pat had a very intelligent and inquisitive mind. He was constantly looking for new things to learn, but not always in school. He loved the outdoors, he trapped and taught himself to skin and stretch the skins to sell. He also loved to fish and camp. His other big love was motorcycles, especially Yamahas and Triumphs and being around his buddies. He went to Simpson college and Grandview College in Des Moines. He and 2or 3 of his friends joined the Marine Reserves out of High school in 1964. He was always proud of being a Marine.
He had many different jobs in his life and was good at all of them. He especially loved his kids. He is survived by Sally Scully and her Husband Toby, Monica Vail and her Husband Cory of Indianola and David and Danny Lundstrum and many Grandchildren. He met his soulmate, Brenda Pinkston in Kirksville, Missouri and they married in 2006. They shared a mutual love of baseball, trains and traveling. They had many wonderful trips and cruises together. Brenda was his rock. Unfortunately Brenda passed away Feb. 27,2021 and I'm sure she welcomed him with open arms when Pat died of a heart attack at Columbia University Hospital on April 19, 2021.
Pat, or Owen as many of his friends called him, is also survived by a Sister, Kathy Bell and her Husband Cliff and, a Brother, Laurence Rafferty and his wife Tammy and around 12 Nieces and Nephews and as many Grandchildren.
Patrick was a character with a unique sense of humor, must have been the Irish in him. Though Dementia had started to work on his mind he always seem to be in a good frame of mind and was still being ornery.
We will miss him greatly and we feel it was such a blessing when he met Brenda. To spend your last years happy and traveling with the one you love is truly a blessing.
We love you Owen Patrick Rafferty and you too Brenda.
Owen will be cremated and he along with Brenda will be interred in the LaPlata Cemetery in LaPlata, Missouri.
