Ozetta Hicks, 78, of Livonia, MO, passed away at the Putnam County Care Center in Unionville, MO, on Thursday, March 21, 2019, after a battle with cancer.
Ozetta Marie McDannald Hicks was born in Putnam County, MO, on April 22, 1940, the daughter of Leland “Sie” David and Reta “Polly” Pauline (Clinkenbeard) McDannald, who preceded her in death. She was reared in eastern Putnam County and lived in the Livonia area all her life. Ozetta married Arnold Leopard and to this union one daughter was born, Reta. They later divorced. Ozetta later married Richard Hicks and to this union three sons were born, David, Richard, and Kevin. They later divorced. In addition to being a homemaker, Ozetta worked as a waitress at the sale barn café in Unionville. She also worked in housekeeping at the Putnam County Care Center and then served as an in-home caregiver. Ozetta was currently serving on the OATS committee for Putnam County, volunteering as a coordinator for transportation. She had been active in helping with 4-H in the past. Ozetta loved her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a member of Omaha Baptist Church. Ozetta liked people and liked to visit. She loved her home in the country.
Ozetta is survived by her children: Reta (Jerry) Long of Centerville, IA, Richard Hicks of Livonia, MO, and Kevin (Marcie) Hicks of Allen Park, MI; and daughter-in-law Lynnette Hicks of Livonia, MO. She is also survived by her 14 grandchildren: Heather Hughes, Christopher Sandner, Tyler Sandner, Derry Long, Tanner Long, Jerren Long, Justin Long, Emilee Long, Levi Long, Mandi Brown, Britten Hicks, Jessica Hicks, Amanda Overton, and Zachary Hicks; as well as 12 great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. Also surviving are two brothers, Glenn “Bubby” McDannald and James (Nancy) McDannald, both of Livonia, MO, as well as Uncle George, Aunt Marge, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Ozetta was preceded in death by a son, David Hicks, and a brother, Harold David, who passed away in infancy.
Funeral services for Ozetta Hicks will be at Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home at 11:00 pm on Tuesday, March 26, 2019, with visitation from 6:00 – 8:00 pm on Monday, March 25. Interment will be at the Mitchell Cemetery in Putnam County.
Memorials are suggested to OATS, Omaha Baptist Church, and/or the Mitchell Cemetery and may be entrusted with Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO 63565.
