Patricia (Patsy) Carole Shipley

Patricia (Patsy) Carole Shipley of Unionville, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2018, at the Putnam County Memorial Hospital at the age of 72. She was born September 14, 1945, in Kirksville, MO, at Grim-Smith Hospital. She was the daughter of Nova Howard Richardson and Eula Maxine Martin Richardson.

Patsy attended country schools and she graduated from Unionville High School in 1963. She married Gary Gene Shipley on September 29, 1963, at the First Christian Church in Unionville. She was an active community member and held many leadership roles throughout different clubs. Patsy was a Master Gardener in the Putnam County Garden Club and played an instrumental part in starting the Junior Gardeners. She was a 4-H member and volunteered her time and efforts helping the youth for over 60 years. Patsy enjoyed sharing this time teaching and learning with her children and grandchildren, and extended these efforts to the entire 4-H community. She was an active member of the Busy Homemakers Club. Patsy worked part-time at Farmers Bank of Northern Missouri in Unionville for 26 years. During her time there, she was able to greet and meet many members of the community. Her hobbies and interest included cake decorating, painting, gardening, and being a master seamstress. She shared many of her talents with family members and others in the community. Patsy also enjoyed showing cattle herself and sharing the same interest with her family and friends.

Patsy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She worked side by side with Gary on their cattle and farming operation. Patsy was dedicated to the farm and her caring and patient disposition attributed to the raising of countless bottle calves. She also kept a large garden, where she spent much of time growing and canning her produce. In 2010, Gary and Patsy were inducted into the Missouri 4-H Hall of Fame. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on September 29, 2013, at their home in rural Unionville.

Patsy is survived by her husband Gary, daughter Tracy (Dana) Starrett, son Greg (Mitzi) Shipley, and son Grant Shipley (Rachael Pflum), all of Unionville, MO; five grandchildren, Jake Shipley, Chelsea Starrett, Samantha Shipley, Ashley Starrett, and Elizabeth Shipley; one sister, Shirley Anne Richardson of Columbia, MO, and many close friends and loved ones.

She was preceded in death by her parents Nova and Maxine, and one infant sister, Betty Maxine.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30am Friday, February 23, 2018, at the Playle and Collins Funeral Home in Unionville, MO, with a burial service following at the Thompson Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday, February 22, 2018, with family receiving friends from 6:00 - 8:00pm. Memorials are suggested to the Putnam County 4-H Building Fund and may be entrusted with Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO 63565.

Patsy will be missed greatly by family and friends.
