Perley Glen Smith 85, of Queen City passed away early Friday morning (Novmeber 22nd, 2024) in the La Plata Nursing Home in La Plata, Missouri.
The son of Glen and Lucille (Minear) Smith, he was born December 20th, 1938, at the rural family home. He grew up in rural Queen City and attended Queen City public schools graduating from high school with the class of 1957. After graduation, he worked for a brief time at Maytag in Newton, IA and then worked for Cessna Aircraft in Wichita, KS for two years.
On May 27th, 1963, Perley was united in marriage to Betty Riley and to this marriage three children were born. They lived in Lancaster for the first year and then in 1964 moved to Queen City where he farmed.
Perley was in the Army National Guard from February 1961 to February 1967 when he was honorably discharged.
He enjoyed building race engines with friends and helping his sons with their restoration projects.
Perley is survived by he wife Betty; children, David Smith of Queen City, MO, Daniel Smith of Perryville, MO, and Deanne Winkler of Columbia, MO; sister, Marilyn Broseghini and husband Frank of Kirksville, MO; grandchildren, Andrew Smith of Perryville, MO, Macie Smith of Perryville, MO, Grant Smith of Perryville, MO, Ashtyn Winkler of Mission, KS, and Matthew Winkler of Kirksville, MO; niece, Ellen Rose and husband Frankie; and great niece and nephew, Emma, Ethan, and Evan Rose.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew, Scott Broseghini.
The funeral service will be held Tuesday, November 26th, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Dooley Funeral Home in Queen City, MO with Pastor Paul Crossgrove officiating. Burial will be in the Queen City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Smith, Daniel Smith, Grant Smith, Andrew Smith, Matthew Winkler, and Bryan Jones. Honorary Pallbearers will be Frankie Rose, Tommy Baxter, and Leland Collins. The visitation will be held on hour prior to the service from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial donations can be made to the Queen City Cemetery.
