Richard Wayne Roof, 61, of Boonville, Missouri, passed away at The University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas, on March 20, 2021.
Richard Roof was born in Unionville, Missouri, on April 14, 1959, the son of Wayne E. Roof and Mary E. (Perkins) Roof. Richard graduated from Putnam County High School in 1977. Richard and Donna (Klinginsmith) were united in marriage on October 13, 1979. They spent over 41 years of marriage raising two sons. They lived in Boonville, Missouri, for almost 30 years. Richard and Donna’s two sons, Nicholas Wayne Roof and Seth Lee Roof are their pride and joy. Richard loved his daughter-in-law Rebecca. Nicholas and Rebecca have two sons. Emmett Wayne and Weston Nicholas. Richard's grandsons were the apple of his eye. They spent many treasured times together.
Richard worked for Boone Electric Cooperative for 29+ years. Richard loved working with his co-workers. They were very dedicated in helping Richard fight through his cancer.
Richard was a member and director of the Riverside Christian Church, Boonville. He loved his church family. Richard enjoyed spending time with his family. He loved spending time with the love of his life, his wife, Donna. He enjoyed his time on the farm with his sons and grandsons. He loved fishing and hunting with his sons, family, and friends. Richard & Donna also had fun gathering at Lake Thunderhead camping with family and all who dropped by. He enjoyed every chance the family got to get together. Richard was always teasing his family, friends, and co-workers. Rich got his Roof sense of humor from his dad and uncles.
Survivors include Richard's wife, Donna and two sons, Nicholas (Rebecca)Roof and Seth Roof; Richard's grandsons, Emmett Wayne and Weston Nicholas Roof. Also surviving are sisters, Eileen (Bob) Byte of Centerville, Iowa, Carolyn Roof of Columbia, Missouri, Linda (Steve) Harlan of Unionville, Missouri and brother Dale (Brandi) Roof of Odessa, Missouri; step-father, Glen Smith of Lake Havasu, Arizona; mother-in-law, June Klinginsmith of Unionville, sisters-in-law, Nancy (Sam) Jones of Unionville, Ann (Bruce) Baughman of Omaha, Missouri, Paula (Paul) Smith of Lucerne, Missouri, Ranae (Curtis) Shields of Unionville, and brothers-in-law Gail (Sally) Klinginsmith of Wichita, Kansas, and Doug Klinginsmith of Unionville. Richard was a wonderful uncle to many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents Mary and Wayne Roof, his father-in-law J. Lee Klinginsmith, and brother-in-law, Don Bruce (late husband of Ranae Bruce-Shields).
Rich will be dearly missed by family and friends. Funeral services will be at Playle & Collins Family Funeral Home in Unionville at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 27, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Lemons Cemetery south of Unionville. A memorial service will take place at Riverside Christian Church in Boonville at 2:00 pm on Sunday, March 28.
