Robert Lee Brown, 93, of Unionville, MO, passed away at the Putnam County Memorial Hospital in Unionville on Tuesday, December 17, 2019, after a stay of about three weeks.
Robert L. Brown was born in his family home west of Livonia, MO, on October 6, 1926, the son of Jasper and Audrey (Ferguson) Brown, who preceded him in death. He was reared on the farm and graduated from Livonia High School in 1944. He immediately joined the Army Air Corps to serve his country. When his term ended in 1945, he signed on with the US Army and served in Japan with both branches of service. Robert married Ruth Hart in Lancaster, MO, on June 12, 1948, and she preceded him in death on March 8, 2011.
Robert and Ruth began married life in Livonia where they owned and operated the Livonia Filling Station, living in the back. He also farmed. Robert later worked as a mechanic for John Deere implement in Unionville under three successive owners. When that business closed he worked as a mechanic for Mustang Implement in Centerville, IA. Robert went to work for Missouri Mining in Putnam County and worked there until they closed. He and his son Richard were owners at Unionville Ready Mix in 1979 and Robert stayed with that for five years before retiring. Robert had his own shop as a side business for 60 years where he worked mostly on boat motors. He was on the original board for Lake Thunderhead and was an avid boater and water skier.
Robert is survived by his daughter Glenda Brenneman of Kansas City, MO and his son, Richard Brown, of Unionville, MO. His grandchildren are Ryan Cole, Richelle (Travis) Lee, Tori Brown, and Jessen Brown. His four great grandchildren are Jordyn Tipton, Keaton Lee, J. Parker Lee, and Jake Lee. He is also survived by a sister, Arlene (Lloyd) Allen of Unionville, MO, and a brother, Clifford Brown, of Livonia, MO.
In addition to his parents and wife, Robert was preceded in death by a son, Jasper Brown, a son-in-law, Bob Brenneman, a daughter-in-law, Patsy Pearson, a brother, Gerald and wife Neva Brown, and a sister-in-law, Tamara Sewell-Brown.
Robert wishes were to be cremated. No services are planned.
