Robert Eugene Atkinson

Robert Eugene Atkinson 92, of Queen City, Missouri passed away August 8, 2024 at his home.

The son of Arthur and Carmelita Atkinson. He was born September 12, 1931 in Schuyler County, Missouri. He attended Jimtown School and graduated from Queen City High School with the class of 1949.

He was united in marriage to Alma Lorene McBee on July 4, 1952 in Hannibal.

He joined the United States Army in 1952 as a crew on a Mobile 105 Canon. He was discharged in 1954 and received the medals of Distinguish Unit Citation, Korean Service Medal, 2 Bronze Stars, Meritorious Unit Commendation, National Defense Medal, United Nation Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal.

He was discharged, returned to Queen City and enrolled in college at Truman, graduating with a degree in Industrial Education.

Robert worked as a draftsman in Joliet, Illinois then relocated to work at Oscar Meyer for over 33 years.

Robert is survived by daughters, Brenda Sidwell and husband Sidney of Queen City, MO., Jani and husband Mike of Greentop, MO.; and Son in Law Fred Stamer of Bettendorf, IA. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Trenton Stamer and wife Kate of Orion, Illinois, Andrew Stamer and wife Jen of Los Angeles, CA., Alex Stamer and wife Justine of Bettendorft, IA., Reid Stamer and wife Nikki of Cedar Rapids, IA., Anna Stamer of Davenport, IA., Brook Swindler and husband Seth of Norbone, MO., Ashley Beeler and husband Mitch of Broken Arrow, OK., Jeffrey Bailey of Queen City, MO., Autumn Bailey of Kansas City, MO. Also surviving are fourteen great grandchildren, Clara Stamer, Marley Stamer, Harper Stamer, Zola Stamer, Mayla Stamer, Ella Stamer, Seth Krolikowski, Logan Krolikowski, Brody Swindler, Tyler Swindler, Mattis Beeler, Brock Beeler, Trax Beeler and Rowan Stamer. 

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Becky Stamer; great granddaughter, Zoe Stamer; brothers, Charles Atkinson and John Atkinson; sister, Mary Ann Anderson; and wife of 69 years Alma Atkinson. 

Robert was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Davenport, IA., then attended St John’s Lutheran Church in Queen City, MO. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and American Legion. He volunteered as a boy scout leader, was active in politics and was a Union Representative.

After retirement he enjoyed going to the YMCA, helping his grandchildren, marching in American Legion Parades and the St Patrick’s Day Parades. He loved fishing and most of all, socializing with everyone. 

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
