Roger Pearson, 69, of Unionville, Missouri, passed away of natural causes at his home on Friday, October 8, 2021. He had been battling cancer for about four months.
Roger Edwin Pearson was born in Centerville, Iowa, on September 12, 1952, the son of Harold Edwin and Sylvia Irene (Anders) Pearson. He graduated from Unionville High School in 1970. Roger married his lifelong sweetheart Sharon Clark in Unionville on January 30, 1970. Roger and Sharon began married life in western Putnam County where they raised cattle and milked cows. They moved to eastern Putnam County in 1979 where they continued their family cattle operation. Roger was a savvy cattleman who liked to buy cattle that he considered “a diamond in the rough” and develop them into good cattle. He was a fixture at the Unionville Livestock Market, where his honest reputation was well known. But Roger was not all about cattle; he was a genuine people person. He loved to visit with people. This served him well as a board of director member at the Putnam County State Bank since its beginning in 1979. He believed in people and that a person who was hardworking and of good character could make it work. He brought a hands-on approach to the banking industry and believed that a good deal was a deal that was good for both parties.
Roger’s family was the priority of his life. He loved spending time with them in whatever they did together. He was an avid hunter of any wildlife: coons, coyote, deer, quail, and waterfowl. He especially introduced hunting to his grandsons. Roger also enjoyed hand fishing with John Steele. He liked to play cards and volleyball and was an active buyer at the Putnam County Junior Livestock sale. Roger was a member at the First Baptist Church in Unionville.
Roger is survived by his wife and two children, Bobby (Angie) Pearson and Tawnya (Chad) Fowler all of Unionville; his three grandsons are Gage Pearson and Levi and Lance Fowler. He is also survived by his sister, Wanda (Randy) Lupton of Unionville and a brother-in-law, Rick (Jan) Clark of Powersville, Missouri. Several nieces and nephews also survive as well as a host of friends.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents and by his in-laws, Harry J. and Alta Clark.
Funeral services for Roger will be at the Unionville Livestock Market in Unionville, Missouri, at 10:30 am on Thursday, October 14, 2021. Visitation will be at the Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home in Unionville on Wednesday, October 13, beginning at 5:00 pm. Interment will be at the Thompson Cemetery east of Unionville.
Memorials are suggested and checks should be made payable to Hospice of Northeast Missouri or the Thompson Cemetery and may be entrusted with Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO 63565
