Sandra Jo Schoonover

March 5, 1942 — November 6, 2019

Sandra Schoonover, 77, of Unionville, MO, went to her eternal home early in the morning, at the Putnam County Care Center on Wednesday, November 6, 2019.

Sandra Jo (Klinginsmith) Schoonover, daughter of Elmo and Helen (Webb) Klinginsmith was born on March 5, 1942, in Unionville, where she grew up and graduated from High School in 1960. Sandra married Gary Schoonover at the Unionville United Methodist Church on June 2, 1962, and then she later earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Northeast Missouri State Teachers College (now Truman State University) in Kirksville. Sandra had a 32-year teaching career in the Seymour (IA) School district, where she touched the lives of countless students by sharing her passion of the arts throughout the years. In 1987 she was awarded Seymour Teacher of the Year and retired in 1998.

Sandra had a love and joy of art and music. Oil painting was a favorite way to express herself. She was able to create many paintings and other pieces of artwork that would showcase her talents forever. She enjoyed playing the piano, singing in the church choir, and led her church’s youth bell choir for many years. Sandy’s faith was very important to her and she was a devoted lifetime member of the Unionville United Methodist Church. She was very passionate about sharing her time and talents with peers, youth, and the community and could also be found cooking, playing golf and cards, and spending time with her grandchildren. She did a great deal of freehand graphic designs for wedding invitations, organizations, and other special events. Sandra always strived for exceptional quality in all of her work.

Sandra is survived by her husband, Gary, of Unionville, and two sons, Scott (Kerry) Schoonover of Unionville, MO, and Joe Schoonover of Independence, MO. Her grandchildren are Scottie Adams, Shayna Pendleton, Deacon and Greta Schoonover, and Quincy and Claire Schoonover and seven great grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Nyle (Barb) Klinginsmith of Columbia, MO.

Sandra was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Linda Shaffer.
