Shelby Dixon, 85, formerly of Unionville, Missouri, passed away at the Golden Age Care Center in Centerville, Iowa, on Monday, December 21, 2020.
Shelby La Von Dixon was born in Unionville, Missouri, on May 28, 1935, the son of Harvey and Eva (Babbitt) Dixon. He graduated from Unionville High School in 1953 and soon moved to Kansas City. He married Beverly Dean Ragan and five children were born to this union: Doug, Brenda, Deborah, Sonya, and Brad. Shelby managed apartment complexes in Kansas City. He and Beverly later moved back to Unionville and farmed. They also managed The Monroe Manor. Shelby moved back to Kansas City after their divorce where he once again managed apartments. He moved to Unionville to care for his mother and married Donna Gray on November 15, 1997. She preceded him in death on October 2, 2010, and Shelby moved to Centerville soon after.
Shelby enjoyed driving through the countryside and seeing old barns and windmills. He loved the scenic views of his drives. Shelby was a people person and a people watcher. He loved spending time with is family and his dear sister. Shelby attended Broadlawn Baptist Church in Unionville.
Shelby is survived by his wife, Laura (Helmken) Dixon of Centerville, Iowa, and four children: Brenda (Stefan) Carr of Lawson, Missouri; Deborah Dixon of Centerville, Iowa; Sonya (Robbie) Robison of Unionville, Missouri; and Brad Dixon of Kansas City, Missouri. His four grandchildren are Derek Carter, Brittani Maulsby, Nash Robison, and Carli Robison. He is also survived by five great grandchildren as well as his sister, Madalyn Partin of Liberty, Missouri, niece Rhonda Partin-Perry and nephew Craig Partin.
Shelby was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Douglas Dale Dixon, a wife, Marion, and brother-in-law James Partin.
Graveside services for Shelby Dixon will be at the Unionville Cemetery at 2:00 pm on Sunday, December 27, 2020, with visitation at Playle & Collins Family Funeral Home one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Unionville Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the Unionville Cemetery and may be entrusted with Playle & Collins Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27 th , Unionville, Missouri, 63565.
