Shirley Marie Westmoreland

Shirley Marie Westmoreland, 76 of Kirksville passed away Friday, November 27, 2020 at the LaPlata Nursing Home.

The daughter of Pearl Mulanix and Ruby (Stewart) Worthington, she was born June 12, 1944 in Kirksville, Missouri. On November 9, 1969 in Kirksville she was united in marriage to James Westmoreland.

Shirley is survived by her children, Traci (Marty) Jones and James (Holly) Westmoreland of Kirksville; three grandchildren, Derek (Jeanna Johnson) Jones of Kirksville, Tiffany (Jeffery) Sayre of Green Castle, MO and Carson Westmoreland of Kirksville; one great granddaughter, Trinity Marie Sayre; one brother, Steve (Melanie) Peterson of Kirksville; one sister, Marilyn Peterson of Kirksville; one special dog, Diesel; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins, including one special niece, Shirlene Hettinger (Brent), who brought her food, snacks and whatever else she wanted.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Marilyn Phillips; one brother, Jerry Brandingberg; one brother-in-law, Tom Phillips; and her foster parents, Robert and Margaret Lowe.

Shirley worked as a hairdresser for over 50 years, working for Karen’s Beauty Salon for Karen Robinson, Hair South for Vicki Cowen and also at Kirksville Heights and Manor Care doing hair. She worked as a dietary aid at Manor Care for over 7 years. She loved this job, making many friends. She was also known for making sweet tea.

She was a judge for many years at the Adair County Fair and would help with rabbits. She loved helping her kids show livestock for many years and was a 4-H leader for many years.

She loved fishing, flowers, Elvis, cooking, and gardening. She was known to make her trays at Christmas time to take around places. Loved spending time with family as joking around.

She always had a smile and laugh, but you never had to wonder what she was thinking, because she had no trouble telling you.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 4, 2020 at Forrest Llewelyn Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Adair County Humane Society.
