Thomas D. Casady, 85, of Hollister, Missouri, answered the call to be with his Lord on Thursday, June 11, 2020. He was at home surrounded by his loving family.
Thomas D. Casady was born in Ottumwa, Iowa, on June 16, 1934, the son of Clayton and Florence Casady. Tom graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1952. Tom worked several jobs after graduation. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior in 1965 after the death of his beloved father. He was soon called into the gospel ministry. Tom attended William Penn College in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He accepted his first pastorate with Broadlawn Baptist Church in Unionville, Missouri, and continued his education at Northeast Missouri State College (Truman University) in Kirksville, Missouri. He was hired by Unionville High School to be a history teacher and assistant varsity football coach/assistant girls’ basketball coach in the fall of 1970. He later taught and coached in Kahoka and Neosho, Missouri. Brother Tom also served many years as a Baptist pastor in Omaha (Missouri), Wayland, Northside, Golden, Seneca First Baptist, Mt. Zion, and Sweetwater, where he retired in March 2004.
Tom was a loving husband, devoted father, and family man. He enjoyed the outdoors, spending his time in the mountains chasing game and, where there was water, wetting a hook and hoping for a bite. His final years were filled traveling, visiting with grandchildren and great grandchildren, watching sports, and enjoying time with his wife. Tom never met a stranger and was always interested in hearing their story. He loved to share about his hope in Christ and often asked if his listener had “a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.” If not, he was happy to share how they could.
Tom is survived by his wife, Pat, and children Tom (Charlene) Casady, Jane (Dave) Halley, Craig (Linda) Casady, Teresa (John) Cook, Johnna (Jared) Williams, and Justin (April) Clement. He is also survive by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and other family members.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents, Leaden E. and Ora E. Casady, his brother, Charles (Chuck) and his first wife, Colleen Casady, whom Tom married on October 20, 1951. She passed away in 1993.
Family, friends, and those touched by the life of Brother Tom are welcome to attend a Celebration of Life service at Sweetwater Baptist Church, 16737 St. Hwy H, Neosho, Missouri, from 6:30 – 8:30 pm on Tuesday, June 23, 2020. Another celebration service will be at Omaha Baptist Church, 40056 Petty Mill Trail, Unionville, at 12:00 noon, on Thursday, June 25, 2020, followed by inurnment at 1:30 at Unionville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Sweetwater Baptist Church, Omaha Baptist Church or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital and may be entrusted with Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO 63565.
