Thomas Lee Smith

January 20, 1958 — December 28, 2021

Thomas Lee Smith, 63, of Kirksville, MO passed away Wednesday, December 30, 2021, at Northeast Regional Medical Center.

Tom, known by many as “Tom Cat” was born on January 20, 1958 in Kirksville, Mo to Glen “Buster” Werner Smith and Viva (Cooley) Smith.

Tom spent most of his life in Kirksville. He was a graduate of Kirksville High School, Class of 1976.  He spent many years working as a roofer in the Adair county area. Later he was a caregiver for Ellendale and enjoyed working with his boys.  Tom was working for Kraft when he became ill and was unable to continue working.

He is survived by three sons, Alek Warner Smith of La Plata, MO, Phillip Cole Smith of Tampa FL, and Joshua Seay Larison and wife Megan of Maryville, MO. Other survivors include two sisters of Kirksville, MO, Tresa Creason and Tami Smith and special niece Tabitha Sidwell.

Tom was always there to help anyone in need sometimes to his own detriment but his heart was huge.  He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his hearty laugh, and his run of most any pool table he encountered.  One of his favorite times was playing ping pong with his sons. He also enjoyed cooking, camping and reading his Bible.

Tom has been cremated and a celebration of his life will be planned at a later time. Until then, remember him with happy thoughts and know that he is with the Lord.     2 Corinthians 5:8.

Thank you to NRMC staff and his Nurse Jennifer who cared for him.  A very special thanks to Sam Burkholder who was with Tom in prayer as he made his transition into Glory.
