Vern Frances Angel

Vern Angel, 97, of Lucerne, Mo, passed away at the Wayne County Hospital in Corydon, IA, on Sunday, March 11, 2018.

Vern Frances Angel was born in Blakesburg, IA, on September 25, 1920, the son of Ferel and Mable Angel, who preceded him in death.  He married Bertha Blanchard in 1939 and she preceded him in death on July 30, 1998.  Vern taught school when in his 20’s and then farmed.  He later managed the MFA General Store in Powersville.  Vern then went to Kansas City where he worked as a supervisor in the kitchen at St. Luke’s Hospital.  He retired from that position and moved back to farm in Powersville, while also working as a janitor at R-3 school at West Putnam.  In later years he worked for Premiums Standard Farms at Terre Haute.  He worked there alongside Terry Busker, whom he enjoyed very much.

Vern was very involved in his community.  He was a dedicated cook for the Powersville Community Hall.  He was a member of the Lucerne Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge in Hartford. He loved country music shows and traveling to Texas and Washington with his daughter.  Vern loved his grandkids and great grandkids.  He was very special to all of them.  He had great wisdom and love for family and friends and he will be sadly missed by all.

Vern is survived by his daughter, Barbara Davis, of McAllen, TX and his son, Verlan Angel of Lake Mills, IA.  He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.  Vern is also survived by a brother, Lonnie Angel and wife Rose Marie of Lee’s Summit, MO.

In addition to his wife and parents, Vern was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Dewey Davis in 2012, a grandson, Marty Davis, in 2008, and an infant grandson, Dillon Davis, in 1995.  He was also preceded in death by a brother, Gerald Angel and a sister, Velma Harbert.

Vern’s wishes were to be cremated.  A memorial service will be held at a later date.  Memorial donations are suggested to the Lucerne Cemetery and may be entrusted with Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO  63565.
