Virginia Mae "Aunt Sis" Marks age 102, passed away Monday, May 6, 2019, at the Kirksville Manor Care Center in Kirksville, MO.
The daughter of John Sherman and Elsie (Leavitt) Butler, Virginia was born August 15, 1916 in Kirksville, MO. On May 20, 1945 in Green Castle, MO she was united in marriage to Frank Lee Marks who preceded her in death.
Also preceding her in death were her parents, a brother, Robert Butler and a sister-in-law, Freda Butler.
Virginia is survived by three nieces, Mary Davidson and special friend, Allen Cook, Roberta Snyder and husband, Dennis and Henrietta Garman and husband, Darrell; two nephews, J. P. Butler and wife, Diane and R. L. Butler and wife, Terri; 13 great-nieces and nephews and 23 great-great-nieces and nephews.
Virginia was reared in Kirksville, MO and attended the Kirksville public schools, graduating from the Kirksville High School with the Class of 1936. She was a hard worker and worked very hard on the family farm. Virginia was a member of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program from 1974 until 2017. She also served on the NEMO Senior Citizens Services board for many years; she was a member of W.P.F.A.; Missionary Club and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2019, at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home with Melvin Bissey officiating. Burial will be in the Highland Park Cemetery in Kirksville, MO. Vistation with the family will be on Thursday, may 9, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the First Church of God or the R.S.V.P. and can be left at or mailed to the funeral home.
