Virginia Sue Nagel

Virginia Sue Nagel, 94, of Kirksville, passed away on Tuesday, June 27, at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville.

The daughter of Ross and Edith Lyle (Jones) Warden, she was born on September 16, 1922, in Kirksville, Mo. On July 15, 1943, she was united in marriage to Roland Frank Nagel and this union celebrated 71 years before Roland's passing in 2014.

Sue is survived by two daughters; Susan Lynne Bell and husband Gary of Novinger, and Lisa Marie Whitley and husband Pete of Smithville, Texas; two grandchildren, Melissa Lynne Jerome and husband Kevin of Weldon Spring and William Brian Jackson and wife Marilyn of Peoria, Az; three great grandchildren, Troy Jerome, Carissa Jackson and Alexis Jackson; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, three great grandchildren in infancy and one brother, Ross M. Warden of Quincy, Il.

Sue graduated from Kirksville Senior High with the class of 1940. She then attended Kirksville State Teachers College (now Truman State University). Other than a 4 year tenure in Natchitoches, LA, while Roland was teaching at Northwestern Louisiana State College, Sue spent her entire life in Kirksville.

Life centered around her two girls and the activities of First Baptist Church. Sue was well known as the Director of the Handbell Choir, a position she treasured for 37 years. She was also active in the Chancel Choir, Senior Songsters and had served as Church Librarian and Church Financial Secretary. She had been a member of the Third Contemporary Club and enjoyed the frequent meetings with members of her high school graduating class.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 30, at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Chapel. Visitation with the family will be at 10:00-11:00 preceding the service. Entombment will be in Park View Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
