Vivian “Valee” Roof

Valee Roof, 90, of Unionville, MO passed away at the Putnam County Care Center on April 7, 2019.

Valee was born in Livonia, MO on October 22, 1928 the daughter of Robert and Zena (Anderson) Crawford.  Valee graduated from the Unionville High School and married Melvin Roof shortly after. She then began her life-long career as a farm wife, taking care of everyone including the animals that she loved.  When work for the day was done, Valee enjoyed evenings out on the town square dancing with Melvin and playing cards with friends and family. She occasionally got caught getting a little heated when someone would challenge her Chicago Cubs.  Valee always thought of her daughter-in-laws as daughters and took care of her own mother until the end. She wrote poetry for members of her family and would quote some of her funny poems to entertain those visiting. Valee held a great appreciation for Basil and Wanda Roof and Ruth Hines who visited her often.

Valee Roof is survived by two sons, Curtis Roof and wife Joyce of Kirksville, MO and Roger Roof and wife Carolyn of Unionville, MO.  Valee’s surviving grandchildren are Kathryn Crumine and husband John, John Spomer, Daniel Spomer, Matthew Spomer and wife Stephanie, Garrett Roof and wife Megan, Lacey Roof and friend Jesse, and Colby Roof and wife Carlie.  Valee is also survived by 9 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Betty Jo Crawford; nephews, Robert Wayne Anderson, David Anderson, and Hubert Anderson; and niece, Virginia Bailey.

In addition to Valee’s husband and parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Virgil Anderson and wife Georgia, and Robert Dell Crawford; sister, Blanche Riley and husband O.G.; nephews, Bobby Gene Riley and Harold Loyd Anderson; and nieces, Neta Riley, Sheri Adams, and Cindy West.

Memorials for Valee are suggested to the Unionville Cemetery and may be entrusted to the Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO  63565.
