Wade M. Coorts

Wade Merle Coorts, 88, was welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven, Sunday, January 16 th , 2022. Wade was born in Emden, Illinois on April 17th, 1933, to Ralph A. Coorts and Hannah T. (Wubben) Coorts.  On May 8 th , 1954, Wade married the love of his life, Marilyn Maxine Karnes.  Their marriage was blessed with two daughters:  Pamela and Kathy. Wade and Marilyn were married for 66 years at the time of her passing in 2021.

Wade grew up on a farm with his parents and three brothers in Linneus, Missouri. He played on a championship basketball team in Linneus and received a full scholarship to play basketball at Moberly Junior College. He played basketball there, until he was drafted into the United States Army. He served in Germany for one year.

In 1960 Wade began his 41-year career in the hardware business.  He was hired by Frank K. Westlake of Westlake Hardware in Moberly, Missouri. In 1963 he opened and managed one of the first Westlake Ace Hardware stores which was located in downtown Kirksville, Missouri. Later, in 1972, Wade opened a larger Westlake Ace Hardware store in Kirksville and expanded it twice before retiring in 1995. After retiring, he continued as a member of the Board of Directors for Westlake Ace Hardware.

Wade was a long time member (59 years) of Faith Lutheran Church in Kirksville, Missouri, serving on various boards and committees.  Wade and Marilyn had a heart for Faith Lutheran Church School. They enjoyed serving the school, the church, and all its members.   Wade was also a member of the Kirksville Rotary Club.

Wade Coorts was an incredible man of integrity and always put his family first.  Wade and Marilyn had a one-of-a-kind love and devotion that was an example and witness to all who knew them.  Besides loving to spend time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren he enjoyed woodworking, fishing, gardening, and spending time with his friends.

Wade is survived by his brother, Larry Coorts (Sandra Coorts) of Branson, MO; two sisters-in-law: Annette Coorts Flanders and Marguerite Coorts Ruch; two daughters: Pamela L. Sees (David H. Sees) of Montgomery, TX, and Kathy L. Peterson (Douglas E. Peterson) of New Boston, MO; four grandchildren: Richard H. Sees (Tiah Sees) of Willis, TX, Ashley M. Davis (Jordan Davis) of Shawnee, KS, Jayme E. Sinkey (Matthew Sinkey) of Conroe, TX, and Kaitlyn N. Hargis (Joshua Hargis) of Albuquerque, NM; and ten great-grandchildren: Hannah Sees, Makenna Sees, Madilynn Sees, Brooklyn Davis, Bryant Davis, Blake Davis, Emma Sinkey, Luke Sinkey, Elizah Hargis, and Josephine Hargis.

Service will be held on Saturday, January 29 th , 2022, at Faith Lutheran Church, Kirksville, MO at 11 AM with visitation at 10 AM. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Moberly, Missouri at 1:30PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to Faith Lutheran Church School, Kirksville, MO, in his name.
