Ward Jones, 89 of Queen City passed away Sunday (January 26th, 2025) at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville.
The son of Birney W. and Ethel (McCormick) Jones, Ward was born December 3rd, 1935 in rural Queen City. He attended school in rural Schuyler County and graduated from Queen City High School in 1953. He went to work in Davenport, IA for Alcoa. He married Janet Collins on June 30th, 1956 and to this union two children were born, Rex and Joni. On December 13th, 1965, Ward married Joyce Schroeder and to this union two children were born, Bryan and Dyan. Ward attended Fisher Body School in Kansas City and graduated in 1968 and moved back to Queen City to start his own body shop, Ward’s Body Shop. In 1990, he became a mail carrier until he retired. He also worked as an EMT in the late 70s and 80s. On August 27th, 2015, he married Kay Miller.
Ward is survived by his wife, Kay Jones; Children, Rex Jones of Queen City, Joni Schreiner and husband Tom of Wisconsin, Bryan Jones and wife Sheri of Queen City, and Dyan George and husband Michael of Kirksville; 8 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; sister, Kay Sidwell; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joyce Jones; two brothers, Norman Lynn Jones and Novel Jones and wife Roberta; one sister, Brenda True; one great granddaughter, Everley Anderson; nephew, Mikel Jones; and great niece, Britney Jones.
Ward was a member of the Queen City Christian Church and 50+ year masonic lodge. He was a loving father and husband and a very giving person.
The funeral service will be Wednesday, January 29th, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. at Dooley Funeral Home in Queen City with Pastor Paul Crossgrove officiating. Pallbearers will be Brayden Jones, Brandon Jones, Joni Schreiner, Jared Shaw, Steve Jones and Ashley Bulechek and Honorary Pallbearers, Brendan Jones, Jim McBee, Paul Anderson, Chuck Jones, Mark Jones, Avery Jones, Don McCormick, and Lloyd Dufur. Burial will follow the service at Tarr Cemetery West of Queen City. A visitation will be held two hours prior to the service from 10-12 at the funeral home with a Masonic rites services before the start of the funeral.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Tarr Cemetery.
