Wayne “Grumpy” Dunkin, 70, of Unionville, Missouri, passed away at his home Monday, May 20, 2019.
Harold Wayne Dunkin was born in Washington, Iowa, on July 30, 1948, the son of Glen and Betty (Fleshman) Dunkin. Glen moved the family to a farm near Lucerne, MO in 1953. Wayne attended the Lucerne and West Putnam elementary schools and graduated from Unionville High School in 1966.
Wayne and Dorothy (Valentine) were married June 19, 1966. The couple started out in North Kansas City and then moved to Burlington, IA after a short time where he worked at the ammunition plant and drove a semi. Wayne and Dorothy moved the family back to Lucerne in 1974, where they farmed until 2004. Wayne and Dorothy moved to Unionville where they lived the remainder of his days.
Wayne was known as “Grumpy” Dunkin by his fellow tractor pullers and friends. He was an avid hunter, fisherman; who loved hot rods and farming. He was well known for building his cars to drive faster and occasionally drag race. He enjoyed family times and showing them how to hunt, fish, farm, and work on their vehicles- mostly to make them run faster and louder, though not as good as his vehicle when he was their age. He spent time teaching his kids how to drive the pickup and cattle trailer as well.
Wayne accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior in February of 2018.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy (Valentine) Dunkin and his four children; Suprenna Stanley (Kenny) of Humbolt, KS; Tracy Dunkin of Kansas City, MO; Greg Dunkin (Cristal) of Spickard, MO; and Corey Dunkin of Princeton, MO. They also have six grandchildren; April Renfro (Cody), Chantry Navarro, Robert Navarro, Glen Dunkin, Logan Dunkin, and Makenzie Dunkin. He is also survived by his sister Barbara Nelson of Washington, IA.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Betty Dunkin and his sister, Phyllis Warren of Washington, IA.
Memorial services for Wayne Dunkin will be at the West Liberty Baptist Church west of Unionville, MO, at 10:30 am on Saturday, June 15. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be at a later date.
Memorials are suggested to Wayne County Hospital Dialysis Unit and may be entrusted with Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home, 709 S. 27th St., Unionville, MO 63565.
