Wineva West Haas

Wineva Haas, 101, of Unionville, MO, passed away at the Putnam County Care Center in Unionville on Thursday, August 8, 2019.

Wineva West (Harlan) Haas was born in Green City, MO, on October 3, 1917, the daughter of Floyd and Mabel (Dixon) Harlan who preceded her in death. She graduated from Green City High School and began teaching at the McKay school, a career that was interrupted by her marriage to Clark Haas on December 20, 1935. She was then a homemaker for several years before opening the Haas Black Kettle restaurant north of Unionville. Wineva operated that business for 50 years and when she closed it in the 1990’s she opened a bakery in Kirksville known as the “Little Black Kettle.” She also did catering and catered for the Lion’s Club bingo in Unionville for 10 years. Wineva loved to work and even worked at the Social Security office in Kirksville as part of the Green Thumb program. She also enjoyed quilting. Wineva was a devoted Christian and a member of the Unionville First Christian Church.

Wineva is survived by her daughter, Beth Fountain, of Unionville, MO, and three grandchildren, Lorri Fournier, Greg Fournier, and Mark Fournier, as well as 11 great grandchildren, Jeremy Thomas, Jason Thomas, Carly Shaw, Mallori Perry, Chelsea Fournier, Cali Fournier, Chase Fournier, Jordan Richards, Kenton Richards, Kaylea Richards, and Lawson Richards. She is also survived by four great-great grandchildren, a brother, Glen Buckallew of Kahoka, MO, and a sister Phyllis Dively of Unionville, MO.

Wineva was preceded in death by her parents, husband (on January 1, 1992), and several siblings.

Funeral services for Wineva Haas will be at Playle and Collins Family Funeral Home at 2:00 pm Wednesday, August 14, 2019, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at the Unionville Cemetery.
